How do I know whether my gutters need clearing?
The usual signs are water spilling over the front edge in heavy rain, a stripe of damp on the wall below a joint, plants growing out of the gutter, or drips from a downpipe that should be running. If the gutters are working but the white plastic has gone green and streaked, what you want is the external wash rather than the clear.
What is the difference between the internal clear and internal plus external?
The internal clear empties the gutters and checks the downpipes. That is the option that stops overflows. Internal plus external adds a wash of the outside of the guttering along with the fascias and soffits, so the plastic looks white again. One fixes how it works, the other fixes how it looks.
Do you go up ladders?
Not for a standard clear. The gutter vacuum works from the ground on a carbon pole, which is safer for us and better for your guttering, since nothing is resting on the brackets. It also lets us reach over conservatories and extensions where a ladder could not stand safely.
Can you clear conservatory gutters?
Yes. Conservatory guttering is narrow and blocks easily, and reaching it means working over glass, which is exactly the situation the ground-based pole is built for. Tell the form you have a conservatory so it can be allowed for in the quote.
How often should gutters be cleared?
Once a year suits most properties. If you have mature trees close by, particularly anything that drops needles or seeds, twice a year is more realistic. We will give you an honest view once we have seen what came out of yours.
What if a downpipe is blocked solid?
Most blockages clear with the vacuum and rods on the same visit. If one turns out to be more involved, for example a collapsed section or something wedged at a bend, we will stop, show you what we have found and talk through the options rather than pressing on and charging for it.
